Parent terms

Plain English and short on purpose. These apply when you join and when you buy a membership.

  1. 1Gold Star Sitters is an introduction site. Every sitter is a qualified early childhood educator or teacher. We check one thing. We sight the sitter’s qualification certificate once, confirm the name on it matches the profile, record the qualification and the date, and delete the copy. We do not check anything else.
  2. 2Every sitter agrees to hold a current Working with Children Check or VIT registration. We do not check it, you do. Everything else on a profile, including first aid, police check and references, is the sitter’s own statement. Ask to see the documents at interview. Meet in person before you leave a child with anyone.
  3. 3Sitters are independent. You engage them directly and pay them directly at the rate you agree. We are not a party to that arrangement and we are not the sitter’s employer.
  4. 4Membership gives you messaging and job posts for the term you buy. It is a one-off payment and does not renew. If no sitter replies to any message or job you send within 14 days of joining, we refund it in full. Otherwise it is not refundable.
  5. 5When your membership ends you can still read your own message threads. Sending messages, starting new threads, posting jobs, seeing applicants and your shortlist close until you buy a new membership.
  6. 6Sitter profiles, suburb pages and the job list are updated overnight. A change a sitter makes today can take up to a day to show.
  7. 7You can review a sitter you have messaged and who has replied. Keep it honest and about the care. We remove reviews that break the review rules in our FAQ.
  8. 8No insurance comes with your membership. Cover for your home and for anyone working in it is yours to arrange.
  9. 9We can end a membership without refund if it is used to harass, scam or post false jobs.
  10. 10We are not liable for anything that happens in a job. Our liability to you is limited to the membership fee, or to what the law does not let us exclude.
